Gregor Mendel is known as the father of modern genetics. He was
a Moravian Augustinian priest and studied at theUniversity of Vienna.
He formed three laws of inheritance:
Law of Segregation – This law has four parts
the first states that there are different versions of genes and
this causes variations in inherited traits. The second states that
an organism inherits two alleles* ,one
from each parent. The third law states that if the two allales are
different then the dominate alle will cause that trait to be expressed.
The fourth law states that the two alleles for each characteristic
segregate during gamete* production.
Law of Dominance – states that some alleles
are dominate and others are recessive, the stonger of the allels
will be expressed.
Law of Independent Assortment – states that
expression of one trait will not affext the expresion of another
trait. In other words no traits are linked.
