Strongest Wall                      

Student Activity Instruction Sheet 1.3

Bricks are used for building structures like walls, towers and pillars.  Bricks are stacked and get support from the bricks placed below them.  They do not have holes in them with one exception, the 1x2 with an axle hole.  

Procedure:

1.      Split the group into 2

2.      One Group Build a wall that looks like this:

3.      The other group build a wall that looks like this:

4.      Are both walls sturdy?

5.      Is one of the walls easier to break apart?

6.      Why would the overlapping pieces make a wall stronger or weaker?
