Classification of Lego Parts

Instruction Sheet 1.1
In this activity, you will build an organization system for all Lego Parts and Pieces. You are to separate Lego pieces into categories defined by Robotics Team members.
Example: Lego Wheels are a Team defined category. Find all objects within the kits that look like wheels. What are the characteristics of the wheels? Can you create more categories of wheels based on identified characteristics?
Procedure:
1. Remove lego pieces from their plastic bag containers
2. Organize these parts into groups/categories and place them into the tray provided in your kit.
3. Find the RCX and place the 6 batteries in the RCX for future use
4. After separating all pieces, create a classification system/organizational system for your lego parts, you will need to identify the following items:
a. Category name
b. Number of pieces that fit into the category
c. The proper name of each piece that fits into the category
d. Subcategories
e. Number of pieces that fit into the subcategory
f. The proper name of each piece that fits into the category
Assessment:
1. The teacher will provide you with instructions to report your category classification of each lego piece in your kit.
