This quote affirms what I learned as a writing teacher--that we're looking for a way to publish our writing, to make our writing known to others.

The Blog Advantage

Example of RSS Feeds

The aggregator can be web-based (BlogLines.com (View picture) or software on your computer

Miguel's Notes:

    Some Quick Statistics:
  • According to the Blog Herald (Oct,2005), there are as many as 100 million blogs worldwide
  • According to Forrester research, 10% of Internet users read blogs once or more a week
  • Technorati tracks 20 million blogs and estimates the number is doubling every 5 months
The most powerful part of blogs, aside from the ease in publishing, is the ability to subscribe to their content via RSS feeds. Someone--and I regret not remembering who--likened it to have your own paper boy that brings you the current newspaper whenever the newspaper was published. This is an analogy that seems to work for most people. But, often RSS feeds are still a bit of a mystery for people, not to mention subscribing to them.Using an aggregator, you can make your favorite blog entries come to you.
    Some quick points about RSS:
  • Tracking hundreds of web sites is impossible on a daily basis
  • You can subscribe to web sites using an RSS aggregator
  • The aggregator can be web-based (BlogLines.com (View picture) or software on your computer
  • You can also use a podcatcher to subscribe to audio blogs, also known as podcasts
  • Content comes to you rather than you going to it
