What were the main points made during this session, the "takeaways?" |
| For me the point that stood out the most was just start! In that the focus should start off with me. I need to be a model for the students and work slowly into the blogging as a class concept. By modeling I'll be able to demonstrate the guidelines and expectations that the kids will be using.
A second point I took away is how the concept of blogs follows Bloom's Taxonomy, as well as a student centered experience. Blogs encourage the students to work together and use their creativity in their everyday writing. I think this forum provides those students who are not as vocal or outgoing in class an avenue to express themselves where they are comfortable.

What questions did you have after this presentation? |
| I wonder how the turn around as far as comments and responses works. We don't have enough computers for each student to continually be on one. Will this have an effect on how the blogging works in a class session? |
In terms of your own professional development, what did you gain from the session? |
| I viewed this as my introduction, for I have no experience with blogs. I do think that the tours and surfing helped me to gain a great deal of understanding as to the value it can present. I also thing that by starting off modeling for the class they will see that I am not very comfortable with it at first which will help to get them into the process. As we move on and try more with it I can stress to them that we are learning together which ties us all into the accountability. |
How will you apply the learning to your professional situation? |
| In terms of my situation I can see this becoming a standard part of my Language Arts and Science curriculum. The kids can use the blogs as part of their author chats and class discussion. We can also use the blogs as a means to publish our writings and get outside opinions. Our Science classes can use the blogs for experiment write ups and as a way to seek further information and activities.
|
What other resources (including reading material) are relevant to this session? |
| The one resource that I will promote is the blogs. I mean the kids as well as myself need to get out there and investigate as many blogs as possible. The more we can expose ourselves to it the better at it we'll become.
