What were the main points made during this session, the "takeaways?"
I really liked this session. I felt that there were quite a few "takeaways." Blogging is a way to get meaningful conversation going between all students, even the quiet, shy kids. They often have great thoughts but are reluctant to raise their hands and speak in front of a whole group. Blogging promotes reading, writing, and reflecting on ideas or opinions that may be different from ours. I also like the fact that the kids can get responses from people outside of our class setting, making it important for them to think about what they are writing. Anne's WebQuest is pretty cool and is probably a nice place to start.

What questions did you have after this presentation?
How much will I need to practice until I am comfortable blogging? How do I work blogging into my busy daily schedule? What is the best way to introduce blogging into my classroom? How often should we blog in the classroom? Would it be a good idea to schedule blogging and plan to go to the lab so everyone has access to a computer?

In terms of your own professional development, what did you gain from the session?
Recently I have read more and more about the importance of reflection. Weekly or daily blogs where students could reflect on what they learned, how they felt, successes, or questions they may have could be published. This would be a great way to invite conversation between classmates and the teacher. I can also see how blogging promotes a feeling of community/family within the class because it allows us to get to know each other a little better. By putting reflections in a blog, students can see what their classmates are feeling which I feel will encourage dialogue in written form. I saw some pretty impressive examples of the ways teachers are using blogs to make their students think and to be able to quickly assess their thoughts. I will continue to look at class blogs to get ideas that I can use. This is a new medium for me, but I don't want to be considered a "dinosaur" that isn't willing to try new things and keep up with the times.

How will you apply the learning to your professional situation?
As summer rolls around, I will have time to practice and set up my own blog. The more I can do before school starts, the better prepared I will feel when I present blogging to my students. I plan to start the school year by making sure the terminology Anne introduced is presented early on to my students. There were several SlideShare Shows that my students could benefit from seeing as we begin our journey into blogging.

What other resources (including reading material) are relevant to this session?
I guess for starters- Anne's whole site. I must have clicked on everything I could possibly click on and saw so much good and helpful information. The SlideShare Shows also were great.
