The reflective piece and looking at my classroom practice is the takeaway. I seem to involve myself in PD quite a bit. At some point taking it back to my own classroom is they key. I think the maps used were very effective in showing where I am as a teacher.

It's nothing new for a professional to look at their professional practice as a teacher. Whether as an individual or a professional, we should take a close look at what we are doing and be open to making changes from year to year. This is the true sign of growth as a teacher. In this presentation, they discuss how they create a survey that objectively looks at the integration of technology in the classroom for the primary goal of reflection. It's also clear that Derek Wenmoth senses that teachers are unwilling to consider technology in their practice. He sets out a challenge to evaluate our practice and encourages us to use more technology in our work and with our students. I have witnessed the resistance of many teachers to technology and I can see why he's banging the drums for increased interest. He is sold on the values of technology.

I focused on the different types of classroom usage of technology--Addition, Incorporation, Integration, and Assimilation. I think that most of us who have tried to use technology have really just stayed in the first two types--Addition, where the use of technology was just stand alone, and Incorporation, where we tried using a program to have students do a project (write in WORD) while the rest of the class did something else. I think getting to Integration and eventually Assimilation takes alot of support, planning, and practice.

The point that really captivated my attention is the one of reflection. Not only reflecting on your own but offering a reflection to others. That is, watching them perform their practice and together come up with a small discussion on things you could definitely improve.

The main points made during this session is that critical reflection takes time, requires us to work with others, such as mentors, and requires us to be proactive. We need to reflect on our teaching beliefs and practices, rlect on our intentions and on what we really do in the classroom in regards to integrating technology in the curriculum.
