The following timeline represents an approximate schedule of events related to TPRI Handheld Implementation:

TPRI Handheld Implementation Plan drafted by Instructional Technology Services

April, 2003

.TPRI Handheld Implementation Plan approved by Curriculum & Instruction, Campus Operations (CICO) group

April, 2003

Request for Proposals for the TPRI software and the Palm handheld computers is requested.

May, 2003

RFPs for both items are approved by School Board

May, 2003

All Campus Tech Reps notified of TPRI Handheld Initiative staff development dates in August, and asked to share the information with their principals and K-2 teachers.

May 17, 2003

TPRI Handheld Implementation web site goes up.

May 21, 2003

TPRI Handheld Initiative Flyer is shared with principals.

May 22, 2003

Registration opens for

  • June 25 training for CICs (CICs do not need to register; they are already assigned)

  • August 4-8 training for Grades K-2 teachers

May 25, 2003

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) databases goes online.

May 29, 2003

Email sent to all Grades K-2 teachers notifying them of TPRI Handheld Training

June 2, 2003

Train the Trainers session is held at ESC-20 for designated SAISD staff to become TPRI Trainers. This team of 17 will redeliver the training to SAISD Grades K-2 teachers and anyone else who needs it in the district.

July 15, 2003

Palm Handheld Computers are prepared by vendor and arrangements made for delivery.

July 22, 2003

TPRI Handheld Initiative Planning Meeting between Reading Office and IT Services

July 23, 2003

Agenda, C37 Administrative Procedure, Palm Handheld District Agreement with Teachers (for the latest version, please check with the Office of Policy & Procedure, Sylvia Reyna) is shared with Principals. Principals also acknowledge receipt of Palm inventory. Principals also receive a list of who from their campus has registered for classes from their campus, and are urged to contact those who have not. Bilingual teachers will not be trained in this first phase of training.

July 25, 2003

TPRI Handheld SyncStation Planning Meeting is held.

Schedule for Network Services to setup SyncStations.

July 26, 2003

  1. Notification of workshop registration is sent to all K-2 teachers that have registered.

  2. K-2 CICs receive training on mClass: Reading as well as receive Palm Handhelds.

July 28, 2003

Identification of SyncStations for the TPRI Handheld Initiative Memo sent to Principals

July 29, 2003

  • Meeting with Wireless Generation regarding mClass:Reading Implementation Plan development.

  • Principal Weekly Memo: "Installation SYNCStation Timeline, computer location, computer model, and memo to Principals "

July 29, 30, 31, 2003

  • Orientation meetings for TPRI Handheld Facilitators

  • Training for Network Services staff from Wireless Generation

August 4-8, 2003

Training for Grade K-2 teachers begins. Register online for classes. Materials are online for review.

After August 8

Network Services ensures that at least 3 SyncStations and cradles are available at every campus. View distribution and schedule of SyncStation setup.

August 12, 2003

Return SyncStation Computer Survey to Office of District Initiatives and Special Projects (299-1305)

September, 2003
