Online Literature Circles
By Sue Harris SAISD’s Online Literature Circles are gearing up. October promises to be a ground-breaking month for this Read/Write Web initiative. California, Connecticut, Missouri and New York are just a few of the states signed on to share ideas with our SAISD Circle of readers. SAISD’S Online Literature Circles learning community is an innovative model for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss, and respond to books. Online literature circles allow students to reshape and add onto their understanding as they construct meaning with other readers via the web. Finally, literature circles guide students to deeper understanding of what they read through structured discussion and extended written and artistic response.
This initiative is based on state standards, which strongly endorse literature-based, collaborative classrooms where students take increasing responsibility for choosing, reading, and discussing books .Online Literature circles are safely hosted on the SAISD Connections Moodle.
