Product Review Process
(includes software and web-based services)

When choosing educational software, educators need to evaluate the software carefully to see that the purchase can enhance the overall curriculum. Educational software should enhance classroom learning and develop higher order thinking skills. Software applications are not additions to the curriculum, but should easily fit into the scope and sequence of the course.

The following items outline the process for requesting product review by the Office of Instructional Technology and Learning Services (ITLS). Instructional Technology will work with the requesting campus as well as multiple departments in ascertaining whether products meet the needs of SAISD staff and/or students. It also seeks to establish whether the product is aligned to Vision 2005 and the scope and sequence of approved SAISD programs.

Campuses may not submit a purchase request through the electronic purchasing system until a Product Review Application has been completed.

All products require the completion of the Product Review Application. Even items appearing on the SAISD Approved Software List requires that an application form be completed.

The Process
Effective January 3, 2005

1. Click here to obtain the Product Review Application Form Online
2. Complete the online application
3. Provide evaluation copies of all materials to the committee or provide a website in which the committee can evaluate the product.
4. Click here to check for recommendation status online
5. Upon receipt of approval, submit purchase request through the SAISD Electronic Purchasing System.

If approval is not granted, the campus contact designated in the Online Application will receive email notification detailing the rationale for disapproval.

Any purchases submitted to the SAISD Electronic Purchasing System will be sent to the Office of Instructional Technology and Learning Services (ITLS).

Campuses submitting purchases without completing the Online Product Review Application will be held until all application procedures are complete.

Should you have questions about this process, please do not hesitate to contact Miguel Guhlin via email at mguhlin@saisd.net.
