Re: Transforming Teaching, Learning and Leadership at Your Campus

Howdy! As the year comes to a close, I know you and your Campus Leadership Team at [campus] may be considering hiring a Campus Instructional Technologist (CIT) for the 2005-2006 school year using Title 1 funds. As such, I'd like to revisit the CIT Hiring Process with you and invite you to contact me if you are looking for a list of candidates to interview.

Instructional Technology keeps a list of CIT candidates on file for you--and we're interviewing more now as well--to consider. These individuals have been interviewed to ensure they are a match for SAISD. When you do a follow up interview with them, it is hoped that the campus will select someone that fits in with your campus team.

Please be aware that we have some excellent candidates for Campus Instructional Technologists for you to interview. The efforts of CITs have been featured in the IT eNewsletter. You can find copies of the eNewsletter online at http://itls.saisd.net/enews/index.htm and more information about the CIT Position is available online at http://itls.saisd.net/cit

Thank you,

Miguel Guhlin

SUBJECT: Campus Instructional Technologist Hiring Process

As campus principals, you are aware of how critical selecting the appropriate staff for the job is. The position of campus instructional technologist requires a professional staff member who combines an intense desire to teach using technology, as well as be willing to share the process with teachers, parents, administrators and students. It is even more critical as there is greater demand from state and federal sources for increased accountability, data-driven decision-making, and technology literacy.

The Campus Instructional Technologist is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that technology is carefully and appropriately integrated into content areas
  • Working closely with teachers to achieve integration between content objectives and technology plan, model, write technology integration projects & activities
  • Team-teaching, where appropriate, with content teachers
  • Providing staff development and support for all teachers
  • Addressing equity issues
  • Helping teachers use technology both in one-computer classrooms and computer lab
  • Ensuring that all campuses make appropriate use of existing technology and help them prepare for new technology when it is deployed.
  • Championing parent & community involvement.

To facilitate the selection of the Campus Instructional Technologists for the 2005-2006 school year, all candidates interested in the position will need to follow the process outlined below. This will help ensure that the Campus Instructional Technologist candidate pool is filled with the critical staff members you need to facilitate technology integration at your campus.

The selection process for Campus Instructional Technologists, a position that is co-supervised between the principal and the Director of Instructional Technology Services is as follows:

1) Applicants to CIT position submit application for the position to Human Resources

2) Applications are picked up on a fixed schedule by ITLS in early Spring, late Summer, and early Fall.

3) ITLS Director interviews the applicants

4) An ITLS approved Interviewed Applicant List is then released to principals interested in hiring CITs. Principals interested in hiring a CIT need to notify the Office of Instructional Technology Services.
